Taste Sessions
A taste session is a tasting you run together: the host lines up the wines, everyone scores from their own phone, and the host reveals the bottles one by one. When a wine is revealed, every participant's score becomes a real tasting note in their own OENARI.
Joining is free for every tier. Hosting requires Supporter. On the free tier, Create session opens the upgrade screen instead.
Who Sees What
| Host | Participants | |
|---|---|---|
| Wine list | Always | Open format: from the start. Blind format: only as revealed. |
| Location | Always | Only after accepting the invitation |
| Everyone's scores | Yes | Yes — per wine, as people submit them |
| Blind guesses | After reveal | Their own, and everyone's after reveal |
The location is deliberately withheld until someone has accepted — a session address is often somebody's home.
Formats
Blind — the wines are hidden. Participants see Wine 1, Wine 2, … and score each one, optionally guessing producer, wine, region, grape and vintage. Nothing is shown until the host reveals.
Open — everyone sees which wines are included from the start. Useful when guests bring the bottles.
The format is locked once the session starts.
Private or Open to Apply
Private — I invite people. The session is not visible to anyone else.
Open — anyone can apply. The session appears under Tastings in the Community tab. People request to join and the host approves. Because the wine list is shown so applicants know what to bring, an open session cannot be blind.
Hosting a Session Supporter
- Menu → Taste sessions → Create session.
- Give it a name, an optional description, a date and a location.
- Choose Mode (blind or open), Who can join (private or open) and Scoring: OP score, WSET, both, or none.
- Tap Create session — it is saved as a draft.
- Add wines. Search the wine database, scan a label, or add a wine manually. Every session wine must exist in the database so that the reveal can create proper tasting notes. Set the vintage now or later.
- Invite people (see below).
- Tap Start the session when everyone is ready. It is now live.
- Reveal wines one at a time, or all at once. Each reveal is permanent and creates tasting notes for everyone who scored.
- Finish the session. It locks — no more wines, mode changes or reveals.
As host you can change the details later with Edit session on the session page. The mode cannot be changed once the session is running.
Limits
| Supporter | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions running at a time (draft or live) | 1 | Unlimited |
| Participants per session | 5 | 20 |
| Wines per session | 5 | Unlimited |
A finished session no longer counts toward Sessions running at a time. If you hit a limit, the app says which one.
Inviting People
From the session, tap Invite. Three ways:
- People you follow — pick from the list. Only people you follow each other appear here.
- Search by handle — finds public accounts.
- By e-mail — for anyone, including people who don't have OENARI yet. They receive a join code and can take part after creating an account. Joining is free, so an invitee never hits a paywall.
Every session also has a join code (for example 8AFB6F). Share it any way
you like; participants enter it under Menu → Taste sessions → Join with
code.
Taking Part
Invitations show under Menu → Taste sessions → Invitations and in your activity feed. Accept to see the location and the session.
For each wine, tap it and enter your OP score, notes, and — in a blind session — your guess. Save score. You can change it until the wine is revealed. Everyone's scores for a wine appear beneath it as they come in (anonymous in blind sessions until reveal).
The Reveal
When the host reveals a wine, its identity is shown to everyone and each participant's score is saved as a tasting note in their own OENARI — linked to the right wine and vintage, with the notes they wrote. In blind sessions your guess is kept alongside, so you can see how close you were.
Reveals cannot be undone.
Leaving a Session
Participants → Leave the session. Your scores stay and keep counting toward the averages, but your handle is no longer shown.
Deleting a Session
The host can delete a session that is a draft or finished. Open the session, tap Edit session, and tap Delete session at the bottom.
- Draft — the session and all its invitations are removed.
- Finished — the session is removed for everyone, with all scores and comments.
A session in progress cannot be deleted. Finish the session first. Deleting cannot be undone. Tasting notes already created by reveals stay in each participant's OENARI.
Club Sessions
A session created inside a wine club reaches every club member automatically — no individual invitations. It appears under the club's Sessions tab and in each member's activity feed.
When creating it, Who can join offers Club members (everyone in the club sees it and can sign up) or Open to everyone (people outside the club can find it and sign up too).
